There are 3 important steps to replace a fill valve:
- Make sure the water is turned off at the shut-off valve at the wall or other shut off before starting any repairs. To drain the water from the tank, flush the toilet after shutting off the water. Remove toilet supply line from toilet, use a small bucket and sponge to limit excess water from landing on floor.
- Unscrew old fill valve and dispose. Install new fill valve, be sure to use washer supplied with fill valve. Tighten nut at bottom of fill valve under tank to attach to toilet. Do not over tighten. This is a great time to replace the flapper as you tune up the toilet.
- Connect supply line from shut off valve to fill valve. Turn water back on, check for possible leaks. If any leaks are present snug up the fittings that are leaking.
